Email is an abbreviation for Electronic Mail. The concept is exactly the same as your normal postal service. You type a document on your computer and by help of the internet, you can send this document to another computer for the attention of the person you typed it for.

Just as with the normal postal service, you need to know the address of the person you are sending mail to, and the format of these addresses is quite different in presentation. Below is the format of an Electronic Mail Address:

info@enterdomain.com

The first word, 'info' is like the first line of a standard postal envelope. It's the name of the person you are addressing the mail to. Often times, this word may be very different from the persons name, like an alias. This is to accommodate for the fact that no spaces are allowed in email addresses.

The symbol that follows, '@', which is referred to as the "Commercial At" or "At symbol" among a whole host of other names, indicates that the name before it, should exist on a database of the domain name after the symbol.

The domain name 'enterdomain.com' that follows the 'At Symbol', is like any further lines on a standard postal envelope; in other words, the address of the person you are sending mail to.

There are two main types of Email programme (or Email Client). One of these types, is used through a web page that you can access with a user name and password, which then allows you to read your email while you are still connected to the internet. This is generally referred to as 'Web Mail'.

The other type, is accessed by running a programme on your computer while you are connected to the internet (for example, Outlook, Eudora or Communicator), which then collects your email and enables you to read through it, without having to be connected to the internet. This type is sometimes referred to as POP3 mail.

Email boxes, which can be made to forward or act as POP3 mail and can have unlimited addresses representing them, are sold in groups of five. Each email box has its own user name and password, and can be set-up independently of the other email boxes.

Those who have requirements of more than five email boxes, can opt to purchase additional email boxes, in groups of five.

You can add in email addresses and delete email addresses as you please, or you can elect to have a POP3 account forward on to another email account, with just a few clicks. This might be useful in the case of your taking holidays, for example.

You will be supplied with a user name and password when the configuration of your domain name is complete, which will allow you to start making use of this manager, as well as gain access to your Access Logs, if you have web space.

Email forwarding is a useful tool for keeping your email organized. Just like having your normal post redirected when you move house, email forwarding is a redirection of your email at a given address, to another email address.

If you had two email addresses, one at work, and one at home, you would be able to consolidate the two at such a time, for example, as you were taking holidays.

Effectively, this means that you can have more than two addresses that lead to the same mail box:

There are many more reasons you may wish to forward email, for example, in the case of having a bulky email address that you don't want to disconnect, even though you are the proud owner of a catchy domain name:

Any of these configurations are customizable through the email manager. It's important to note, however, that you can only manage email for domain names that you have control over. In some cases, you may have to speak to another person who may own the domain name that your email is currently sent to, in order to arrange one of the above solutions.

POP3 stands for 'Post Office Protocol, version 3'. This is one of the more common systems for sending and receiving email. POP3 relies on you configuring an email client on your computer, to receive and send email. Information that an email client might require from you, are a user name and password (supplied when you purchase email options through enterDomain) and a Incoming Mail Server (or POP3 Server) as well as an Outgoing Mail Server (or SMTP Server 'Send Mail Transfer Protocol Server'), both of which should read:

mail.enterdomain.com

for an account that you have set up with enterDomain.
